The various activities of the Math and its branch centres are spread over both rural and urban areas. The participation of the people at large in the annual celebrations are indicative of the steady growth in the spreading of the message of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda-Abhedananda.
In the field of education, a considerable number of poor students, both boys and girls of hill tribes of the Darjeeling District, are boarding and lodging in our Hostels for their education. The free libraries and reading rooms attract large numbers of readers. The Charitable Dispensaries, provide free treatment and medical aid to thousands of poor people of the Darjeeling hill district. The publication centres have brought out subsidized editions of select books to enable the masses to have access to them.

 
 
 


PROPAGATION OF VEDANTA ,EDUCATION AND CULTURE
The Universal Truth of Vedanta, which accepts all the phases of truth discovered by scientists, philosophers and seers of truth everywhere and in all ages, is propagated throughout the country and abroad mainly by the publication of books, journals, etc. and by holding lectures, seminars,meetings and daily discourses. Also spiritual training is imparted to the inmate students of all the centres throughout the country, according to the ideal and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna for practical application of the great principles of Vedanta.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICE
In the field of education, Margaret (Sister Nivedita) English School at Siliguri (Roll strength 2564) and Ramakrishna High School for Girls at Kurseong (Roll strength 674 hill tribes) have been giving immense service to both boys and girls of the District of Darjeeling especially to the girls of poor hill tribes. Hostel for boys at Siliguri and Hostel for poor girl students of the hill tribes at Kurseong have been providing opportunities for all classes of students, high and low, to obtain proper education and upkeepment in an atmosphere free from worries and anxieties of the present-day-society. The branch centres at Siliguri, Kurseong and Darjeeling also run 3 Junior Basic Schools (2 for Nepali girls) and 2 Primary Schools (1 for Nepali girls). Besides, there is also the Ramakrishna B. T. College (sponsored) at Darjeeling.

FREE READING ROOM AND LIBRARY
The Free Reading Room and Library occupy a very important position in propagation of Vedanta, education and culture free of cost to all the reading public which has always been in the increase.

The Library at Calcutta Math, which started functioning under the supervision of Swami Abhedananda himself in the year 1927, now contains not only a large number of  rare and valuable books on Vedas, Brahmanas, Shiksas, Pratishakhyas, Upanishads etc. but also the most up-to-date books on philosophy, history, sociology, politics, religion, psychology and literature in Sanskrit, Bengali and English, which are essential to the students of all categories. All the important Dailies, Weeklies, Monthlies and Periodicals are also available. The Library contains about 4000 books in English and about 8000 books in Bengali and attracts the attention of a large number of the reading public as also of students and research scholars. The Free Reading Room provides facilities to the readers and visitors, particularly to students, to go through the rare and valuable works on various topics for the purpose of reference and research.

With the completion of the newly constructed Library Building at Calcutta Math, the Library and Free Reading Room have been shifted to the 1st floor in more spacious rooms than was possible ever before to cater to needs of ever growing readers. There are also Library and Free Reading Rooms attached to branch centres.

DAILY DISCOURSES
Learned discourses on Vedanta, Gita, Bhagavata, Yoga, Upanishad, life and sayings of the great seers of truth, and other cultural and scientific subjects of interest are held daily free of cost to the general public, irrespective of caste, creed and colour, by monks and renowned scholars and artistes in the large newly constructed 'Abhedananda Memorial Lecture Hall' at 19A, Raja Rajkrishna street,Calcutta-6. The growing interest for the Daily Discourses is evidenced by ever-increasing attendance. Similar discourses are held in all the branch centres at Darjeeling, Kurseong and Siliguri.

SPIRITUAL TRAINING
Spiritual training is imparted to the inmate students in Calcutta Headquarters as also in the branch centres, free of all costs, in the light of the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and his disciples, including its practical application in their lives by serving people selflessly and without any discrimination of caste, creed, colour or religion.

ORPHANAGE AND HOSTELS
Accommodation for orphan students of Darjeeling hill tribes at Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Darjeeling; Ladies Hostel attached to the Ramakrishna High School for Girls at Kurseong with accommodation for 35 Nepali girl students and Abhedananda Students Home at Siliguri provide facilities for education with boarding and lodging, free and with charges at moderate rates, meant for parentless and poor students respectively, throughout the state of West Bengal

MEDICAL SERVICES
Medicine and treatment is provided free of cost to the people at large, throughout the year through the charitable dispensaries at Darjeeling, Kurseong and Siliguri branch centres and through the charitable and/or mobile dispensaries run by the sister organisation RAMAKRISHNA ABHEDANANDA MISSION, a registered Society in West Bengal.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
The Ramakrishna Vedanta Math and branch centres laid emphasis on the propagation of the spiritual and cultural ideals of India, and through various types of activities tried to give a practical shape to the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and his illustrious disciples. The centres established real points of contact among people both high and low of different faiths through public celebrations, meetings, classes, publications,lectures, etc.

The Math and its branches solemnly observed the days sanctified by the advent of great saints and prophets. The general features of the celebrations of birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi (the Holy Mother), Swami Vivekananda, and Swami Abhedananda were : Special worship, Homa (offering in the sacred fire), chanting of Scriptural texts, Bhajan and Sankirtan, distribution of Prasad (sacramental food) to the devotees, feeding of the poor in large numbers and lectures by eminent speakers including celebrated monks from Belur Math. Thus the message of Sri Ramakrishna and his direct disciples was steadily spread, and many young and ardent souls came in touch with the ideals of the Math and its branches. Some of the popular Hindu festivals were also celebrated at the Math and its branch centres in Cooperation with the local public.

INAUGURATION OF THE STATUE OF SWAMI ABHEDANANDA


The inauguration ceremony of the life-size statue of PARIBRAJAKA ABHEDANANDA is being held on 3rd June, 2004 at AZAD-HIND-BAG, Kolkata, India, which also holds the statue of his great spiritual brother, Swami Vivekananda.

President of Ramakrishna Vedanta Math will inaugurate the statue and a memorable public meeting will be held under the able leadership of the General Secretary of the most renowned organisation of the day, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission. Many dignified and learned guests, along with the General Secretary of Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, will discuss the life and works of Swami Abhedananda. The Mayor of Kolkata will boost the ceremony as Guest-in-Chief.

This will certainly arouse enthusiasm of the people of India and abroad and help to propagate the ideals and teachings of Swami Abhedananda in a memorable way.

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE GOVERNING BODY

ACTIVITIES OF THE RAMAKRISHNA ABHEDANANDA MISSION FOR THE YEAR 2006-2007

                      Three meetings of the Governing Body were held on 24-06-2006, 25-10-2006 and 31-12-2006 to transact various business of the Mission during the 13th Financial year, i.e. April 2006 to March 2007.

                      The following office bearers were elected by the members of the Governing Body in their meeting held on 26-01-2006 as per clause 14 (d) of the Rules and Regulations of the Mission.

                      Except Swami Tapasananda, who left his mortal coil on 23-01-2006, they are continuing their offices till date

                      During the year 2006-2007 Homoeo Dispensary at Headquarters is being run with voluntary services offered by Dr. S.K.Das, Shri Samar Baral and Shri Panchanan Pal. Total days of Dispesary held — 82, total number of patients treated — 316 of which 14 were new cases, average patients per day being 3 (approx.). The expense for purchasing the medicines for this purpose was Rs.115.00.

                      100 school children were provided nutritious tiffin free of cost every month during the year under review at a cost of Rs.4,500.00. 15 pcs. blankets were distributed from the Headquarters to the needy people at a estimated value of Rs. 1,500.00. Swami Abhedananda Yuba Sammelan was organised in the premises of Ramakrishna Vedanta Math in collaboration with Ramakrishna Vivekananda Seva Sangha, Goabagan. Books on the life and teachings of Swami Abhedananda were distributed free at various places of importance. The Brahmacharyya Vidyashram, one each at Abhedananda Nagar and Hotor Ashram, two mobile medical treatment (Homoeo) centres at Apurbanagar and Jogendra Nagar, Homoeo Dispensaries, one each at Prasadpur and Abhedananda Nagar, are being run by the Headquarters. New dispensaries were run at Bhelia Sarada Math, Bhelia, Hooghly and homeo medicines were partially supplied to them from headquarters. Besides all this, public awareness meetings were held at various places throughout the year as stated below :

WORKS BY THE BRANCH CENTRES

ABHEDANANDA NAGAR, NEW BARRACKPORE, BRANCH CENTRE

                     Expenses incurred by this Branch Centre during the year 2006-2007 was Rs.3,61,270.95 (Rupees three lakh sixty one thousand two hundred seventy and paisa ninety five only).

1)

The present roll strength of the School, Nursery to Standard IV, is 403. About 75 number of students have taken admissions in this session 2007-2008. Most of the outgoing students of Class IV have been admitted in good standard schools. The number of students have reached to the maximum capacity of the School

2)  

Annual cultural function was organised where large number of guardians and general public of the locality participated. Swami Paramatmanandaji Maharaj and Swami Buddhatmanandaji Maharaj graced the occasion by their presence. They spoke on ‘Value of Education’. A competition of music, speech, recitation, dance and drama was also organised to encourage all round development of the students. The School has always maintained its aim of man-making

3)  

One relegious discourses were organised on Sri Ramakrishna. Many local people participated and Prasadam was distributed.

4)  

Large attendance was found on the occasion of Tithipuja of Sri Maa Sarada. Cloths were distributed by revered Swami Paramatmanandaji Maharaj.

5)  

Annual Cultural Function was held by the students of the Vidyamandir where large number of people attended and Swami Paramatmananda spoke on the occasion.

6)  

Saraswati Puja was organised and Prasadam was distributed to the students and guests at large. The gravity of the Puja performed with the system of this Mission drew the attention of the local people

7)  

The annual sports held in a local plagyround was very successful. Large number of guardians and local people participated and enjoyed the sports. Swami Paramatmanandaji Maharaj and Swami Buddhatmanandaji Maharaj spoke on the occasion and appreciated specially the item ‘Go As You Like’, in which the participants dressed themselves as saints, god-goddess, Ramakrishna Deva, Maa Sarada and Swami Vivekananda, etc.

An Ex-students Meet was organised where Swami Paramatmanandaji Maharaj spoke on Vedanta and Value of Education. An interim programme of the employed ex-students was also organised to evaluate the employment-orientation view of the School Authority. Round Table India appreciated this programme very much.

9)  

A musical conference of devotional songs was organised, which drew much attention of the local people.

10)  

On the occasion of Diksha, Swami Samsuddhanandaji Maharaj, President of this Mission, kindly visited the Branch and 120 persons took Prasadam.

11)  

Puja, religious discourses are held twice daily in the Temple. The discussion on Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita are arranged at the houses of devotees and demand for such types of programme are increasing day by day.

12)  

The Ambulence service of this centre is running well. The utilisation of this service by the local people has increased during the year.

13)  

The Mobile Library is also running well. The number of patients benefited by the Mobile Medical Service have increased during this year. At present the centre is utilising the service of the Ambulance for this purpose, but a separate vehicle is deemed necessary.

14)  

The introduction of the coaching classes for Spoken English during this year has been widely accepted by the people of the locality.

15)  

The construction works for the extension of School Building is expected within a short time.

KUMARGHAT, NORTH TRIPURA, BRANCH CENTRE.

                      Free Homoeopathic treatment was offered to 1300 persons and 900 persons were given Allopathic treatment around the villages. The expenditure in these respects was Rs.1,200.00. Cloths were distributed to 70 poor people at the village area at a cost of Rs.8,500.00. Some valuable text books were donated to 6 Nos. students on behalf of this Branch Centre, which cost Rs.1600.00 approximately. Two Rikshaw drivers were given Rs.500.00 each for repairing their rikshaws.Ten orphan boys are given free lodging, food, garments, medicines and education at an expense of Rs.12,000.00 per year. There is an Arts Centre where 50 students were imparted arts-training. Prasadam was distributed to about 10,000 persons and expenditure due to Daridra Narayan Seva was Rs.35,000.00.


DARJEELING BRANCH CENTRE

                      A poor person was given Rs.143.00 to meet the expense of his homoeopathic treatment throughout the year. Sri Visal Rai, a poor inhabitant of Rasik village, was given a few winter-dresses viz. Two sweaters, one jacket, one woolen pant, one woolen vest and one neck-wear at a cost of Rs.900.00. A poor person was helped to take driving lessons from ‘Darjeeling Motor Training School’ so that he can drive hire-car at Darjeeling-Siliguri route. For this purpose an expenditure of Rs.2600.00 was incurred, including Rs.100.00 for his driving license. A poor woman was helped by arranging admission of her two daughters to ‘Municipal Girls’ Primary School’ and an expenditure of Rs.3,136.00 was incurred for buying their school-dresses, sweaters, shoes, socks, school-bags, tiffin-boxes, water-bottles, books, notebooks, pens, pencils etc.. Another poor person was helped for his dental treatments including doctor’s fees, for which Rs.433.50 was incurred.

KURSEONG BRANCH CENTRE

                      On 10th January, 2007 the poor & distressed persons from 20 families living at the Sirebari slum area, about 3 Km. away from Kurseong, was given winter-wears and clothes which cost Rs. 4000.00 approximately. This welfare activity was organised on the eve of birthday tithi of Swami Vivekananda, being 11th January this year. It was initiated and supervised by Swami Shantinathananda of the Kurseong centre with the help of Sri Bipin Rasailee and Sri Ramesh Shankar on behalf of Kurseong Vishwakarma Samaj.

MALLAGURI BRANCH CENTRE, SILIGURI

                    Mobile charitable dispensaries and medicine campaign were conducted on 10-12-2006 at Putimary Primary School, Bagdogra, Gosaipur, Darjeeling, where number of patients were 68. Besides, health examination and distribution of medicines among children were done free of cost. 2) on 04-09-2005 at Ranidanga Primary School, Ranidanga, Darjeeling where number of patients were 80 ; 3) on 25-09-2005 at Radharanjan Primary School, Chaitanyapur, Newrongia, Darjeeling, where number of patients were 125. The doctors were Dr. Mridumoy Das, Dr. Kamal Roy, Dr. Reba Roy and Dr. Dipesh Roy.

                      One permanent charitable dispensary and medicine facility centre is run at Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Siliguri, Pradhan Nagar every Monday with Homeopathic treatment by Dr. Kiran Shankar Basak. Total number of patients treated was 80.


                      Blankets were distributed among poor people of Domohni area of Jalpaiguri district.

                      The break-up of expenditure for distributing the charitable items was as follows :

ATHAROKHAI BRANCH CENTRE, SILIGURI

                      Blood Donation Camp was arranged on 24-02-2007 from 11.30 a.m.. to 12.30 p.m.at Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Shivmandir, Atharokhai, Kadamtala, Darjeeling. Number of donors were 55. Dr. Mridumoy Das, and Medical College Blood Bank Unit, were present at the camp.

                     One permanent charitable dispensary and medicine campaign is run at Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Atharokhai, Shivmandir, every Wednesday & Friday with Homoeopathic treatment and every Saturday with allopathic treatment. The doctors are Dr. Abhijit Roy (Homoeopathy), Dr. Mrs. Shubhra Roy (Homeopathy) and Dr. Mridumoy Das (Allopathy). Total number of patients treated in Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Athariokhai during this year was 972.

                      One permanent charitable dispensary and medicine campaign is run at Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Atharokhai, Shivmandir, every Wednesday & Friday with both Homeopathic and Allopathic treatment. The doctors were Dr. Abhijit Roy (Homeopathy), Dr. Mrs. Shubhra Roy (Homeopathy) and Dr. Mridumoy Das (Allopathy). Total number of patients treated in Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, Athariokhai was 2250.


HOTOR, SOUTH 24-PARGANAS, BRANCH CENTRE

                     The centre arranged religious discourses and free Homoeo treatment to 1736 patients during the year. A Brahmacharyya Vidyashrama with 10 students is being run by the centre. Most revered President Maharaj and Swami Keshavananda Maharaj visited the centre and addressed the public thus spreading the culture and awareness of Indian heritage


BHAGALPUR, BIHAR, BRANCH CENTRE

         The centre is running two Homoeo Medical Dispensaries, one each at Tilkamanji and Jogsar, in addition to religious and cultural programme for awareness of the people of the locality. Total number of patients treated during the year were 1058 at Tilkamanji Camp and 1255 at Jogsar Camp with the voluntary services offered by Dr. Baldeo Prasad Sinha.

                      Thus the Ramakrishna Abhedananda Mission continued ‘Shivajnane Jeevaseva’ on the following ways :

A - Relief Works
B - Medical Services
C - Spread of Education
D - Health Care by providing Medical Camps, Eye Camps etc.
E - Cultural and awareness programme of Indian Heritage.
F - Welfare Activities.

                      All the expenditure was met from subscriptions of members and donations from public in general.

                      We received full cooperation and assistance of the various organisations, Panchayats, the people of magnanimous heart throughout India and abroad. They all owe our sincere thanks.

                      We offer our thanks to the Income Tax authorities for their due co-operation.

                      The previous general meeting of the Mission was held on 25-06-2006.

                      The last general meeting of the Mission was held on 17-06-2007.
